Spoonbill Services

I had trouble with Chase Bank today. This is about my 4rth problem with them. But I'm not going to unleash some blog juice on the issue.

I closed the account.

Here is the part that interested me... I got this cashier's check when I closed the account. The check was written to "Spoonbill Services". I need to transfer this money to my LFCU personal account...

and couldn't...

Just stop there for a second...

This is where I stopped.

It was weird. I had this check which wasn't mine at all. It was Spoonbill Services' check. But I had no Spoonbill Services account! I know this seems obvious, but this seperation between me and "the company" became apparent. Keith Vetter could not cash this check. It was the company's money.

I had to act quick to get Spoonbill Services back up for accepting funds.

Then this crazy thought came to mind... what if I couldn't say "Spoonbill Services" was mine??? What if I couldn't prove Spoonbill Services existed??? This check would be worth ZERO.

Thankfully, I have the DBA paperwork which was signed and stamped by the local office here. DBA stands for "Doing Business As". And it dawned on me that this is sorta like the birth certificate for this fledgling "company".

It was pretty cool. When I went to "Frost", they asked for the dba papers... and I showed them the "official" document... and boom... it was like "Spoonbill Services" existed... It was all legit. And I spoke to her about quarterly tax payments etc.

It is hard to explain because you can be doing something for a while, and then something clicks and you realize you are doing it... and it isn't pretend.

To bail me out of the Chase bank screwup, I had to call mom. And mom works a lot better than Chase. Within minutes, her bank was chatting with me, and had funds traveling to my personal account... this was midstream as I set up the new account at Frost, which BTW, I like these guys, at least up front, 100X better. They even gave me art prints as a "gift" from a Texas artist.

I am so glad that frost bank is going to be better! That was scary about the Spoonbill check! The money still isn't in our account...

Frost is a homegrown Texas bank. You can google it.
