Kaley had a "buckle fracture" in her arm (specifically the end of her radius (the same bone I broke)). She got a pink cast with yellow hearts. Since I am out of the mother umbrella, we have insurance for catastrophe. When I went to pay, the woman first asked me if I knew my copay. I told her we pay everything until a given amount, and then the insurance kicks in. I could tell this sent her squirming, and then she very hesitantly told me it'd be "Eleven Eighty Two" I said, "You mean one thousand one hundred and eighty two dollars?" Then Kaley yelped, "Daddy! You said it might be hundreds! Wow! She said thousands!" The lady then hopped up and said, "Excuse me" and went to the back. She came back with $742. I've noticed that with car dealers, banks and now even bone clinics there is this mysterious backroom where numbers can change. I want to meet the guy in the room and ask him for his spreadsheet.
Kaley sang songs all the way there. The icing on the cake for her, was getting a cast. The guy that put it on had worked for The Houston Texans, and had dropped it to work with kids. He said he liked kids, because kids are always straight with you.
She was sooo happy to get a cast. I saw her reward when we got home. The neighborhood kids swarmed around her and her pink cast.
The woodworking store happened to be between here and there. I visited it on the way back. I got a book on joinery (and found that the method for joining frames that I had thought of is an actual method). Also got a saw blade that will make nice square cuts for this type of joint I am going to try. I also got a piece of Mahogany.
I have to say that pushing this single-owner business, taking care of family things and really trying to make a go of the painting deal is quite a challenge.
Today at the doctor's office I noticed they had "paintings". Upon closer inspection, I found they had two types. One was simply a print with this texture stuff on top, the other was a print with globs of real paint here and there on top.
There is something truly special about a painting that was done outside on an easel. There is something alive about it, important and worthwhile.
The doctor said Kaley will heal fine. It was so interesting to see the xray after having *just* studied the bone structure of the wrist and the ulna and radius.

I am so glad you were able to take her, instead of me having to bring Kovi!
I totally agree about the value of a painting done outside on an easel. We are surrounded by fake stuff.
keith,
If you find out who the guy behind the door is let me know..I need to talk to him about my rejection from the ins. company...It seems that my almost fatal stay was unjustified due to no evidence of "clinical instability"...i bet he can cut me a deal...just rambling on, sorry
I can verify your instability, if that helps :)
And this reminds me of that Zebra song, "Whoooooo's Behind The Door"....
Reminds me of the great and powerful "OZ" from Emerald City...you know? That makes sense that all the people up front could be munchkins...and the ins. company is the flying monkeys.
Exactly what I was thinking...
And freaking everybody is scared of the little old man behind the door.
We are a nation of cowardly lions.
Meow.
