In the small lab where I work, a guy received a Silver Snoopy award. This award started back in the Apollo days. At that time, Charlie Brown was the rage, and Charles Shultz drew up what you see on the left.An is the "Dynamic's Guru" of JSC's engineering robotics group. He specializes in the simulation of the multi-body dynamics of the shuttle's & station's robotic arms. Correct me if I am wrong!
An's family was there. Although this wasn't a complete surprise, because of a couple leaks, I think it was a pretty big surprise. Fun!
Below is a cut-n-paste about the award.
Of all the SFA awards, the Silver Snoopy best symbolizes the intent and spirit of Space Flight Awareness. Since the Silver Snoopy represents the astronauts’ own award for outstanding performance contributing to flight safety or mission success, it is always presented by an astronaut. Receiving this award is a very special honor, since less than 1 percent of the space program workforce receive it annually. The award consists of a sterling silver Snoopy lapel pin that was flown on a Space Shuttle mission plus a certificate and commendation letter signed by the presenting astronaut.
