Sleep Talking

Just heard Kovi say, "Hi, Da-dee" in his sleep. That is about the sweetest thing I've heard. I don't know if that kind of thing can be topped. I feel as though I could rest now, like it's finished, whatever "it" is or was.

Had such a good visit with an old friend on Sunday. Sat on the back porch in rocking chairs. I miss that. Just hearing the day-to-day things that happen.

Sometimes you get a jewel in your own lap too. Like Bart shooting nails through the back of your pristine solid mohagany frame which you made for your friend's wedding present... and you find nails sticking through the face... lots of them... and you know it's perfect.

Today I watched an elderly man fishing. His line was stuck on a branch. He started talking to me about it. He yanked this way and that on it. I set up my hammock and watched. He said, "I hate to break it." There was such a suspense about it. After yanking, he pulled slow and hard and actually pulled a good sized branch up. Saved his hook and bobber.

On his cap it said, "I Survived Ivan".

He said he had just started fishing and told me a fishing story. He said he was down towards the coast and got a "red". He said it was 16 inches long. He said they said it was too small. And so they made him throw it back. He looked at me intently and said, "That was hard to do, I tell ya. I thought that was a good sized fish. They made me throw it back. Said it wasn't big enough. But that's a big fish. Isn't it? How big do they have to be to keep them?" He packed up and left after that.

And I wondered after he left if he was an angel. For me, he was.

Being able to rest in and share those things is where wealth is.

Keith, it takes a pretty big man to share his innermost thoughts and the beauty of your life in the descriptions you share with us. I'm so proud you're my son-in-love!
