Everybody around me has been sick (flu). I was beginning to think I was going to make it through the gauntlet. But, nope!
Since I am a standalone company, insurance companies like Blue Cross and Blue Shield won't even give you the time of day. But it isn't so bad. As long as you aren't sick, LOL.
What we have is a high deductable. We have an "insurance card" which is kind of like a coupon book, like one of those that kids sell for $35 with buy-one-get-one-free meals at some restaurant. There is no cost cut on prescriptions. We find huge price differences from drugstore to drugstore.
We place money on this debit card. It works well for consolodating stuff for tax reasons. It is also a running total, so that when we go over the large deductable, they supposedly will pay. We haven't tested those waters. The people on the other end of the line have seemed personable and give us reason to believe that they are real. However, I am insecure about it. There is no collective bargaining. If any challenge occured, we'd probably lose.
We've found it better to go to doctors that don't take insurance. They are simple and cheaper.
