Being Witnessed To

I just had two girls passionately try to convince me to join their religion. I stood in the sun, out of the shade, pretty much the whole time. I figured I was wasting there time and should do some penance. They told me I was living falsely. I think I exasperated them. I only asked a couple questions. One, I had to argue that "love your neighbor" had a physical meaning, and on top of that it mattered. I think I logically dead-locked her on that one. She ended by saying, "You're so funny." Although, I was left with the logical conundrum of the impossibility of loving God and loving my neighbor at the same time... the only way out being to keep the Sabbath and the Passover Meal... of which I was apparently not doing since I was worshiping the sun, on Sunday... something Constantine did in 323 fooling the world. The last one, "What if I don't want to go to heaven?" threw her. I wasn't being evasive. I meant it. I don't think she had too much to offer if I didn't feel like going to heaven; and wasn't too scared of hell - I was trying to prove I could take the heat by standing there in the sun... I don't think they picked up on that.

I don't want to serve a god who hides stuff cryptically in the bible... and throws most of the world in hell because they didn't connect the dots right. That's insane.

I shouldn't even blog this, but I just about suffered heat stroke out there trying to be friendly... and I'm about off kilter now...

My father, a scientist, was always very kind to god botherers, as an agnostic he felt he should know about all religions, but even he drew the line at times.

I know the bible can be cryptic at times, but (for me) the bible is challenging, ironic, painful, and life-changing all at the same time. I read Proverbs and know I should be more diligent and to keep my mouth shut; I read Ephesians and am reminded that I should love my wife more; I read any of the gospels and am thankful that a way has been made for my sins to be forgotten. The bible is more about restoration (of everything) than "how to get into heaven". Don't give up...I am pulling for you. I need help staying "on kilter" too.

Thanks, since this stirred up a couple comments and e-mail I should probably post another post and explain.

Seriously, if there is an omnipotent being with no qualms about torturing ignorant people forever with fire, then all bets are off.

Insane is a good word.
