Experimental Joint

1That is my first go at joinery. That is on a couple scrap pieces left over from some other stuff that I milled. After all that reading on joinery, I ended up making something up. I wonder what the name of it is. It is SQUARE!

You can see how it chipped. I think I can fix that when I do the real thing.

The jig that I made works really well. I am getting much more comfortable with the machinery.

I went to Home Depot today and got a three-way. Now I don't have to plug in each machine as I go from one to the other. I also got a little tool pouch. I have a feeling that Kovi is really going to like this tool pouch.

The table saw is becoming my friend. One thing that really helped was switching to a different blade. I have two of them. The other one I think is used for finer work. The one I switched to is made for ripping. The teeth on this blade are square. I think it works better for grooving.

I can say for sure that the cross cutting jig has made all the difference. I was leery of making it. I thought the only things that would really work were things that were stainless steel milled to some unfathomable precision. That is not true.

Another thing which I have found is that the bandsaw, the jointer and the table saw take a human touch. I remarked the other day that I wish all the tools were like the planer. It is self-feeding, and theoretically you could step behind some wall with a peep hole and let it do its business, like they do with x-rays.

Today, the tools seemed more like extensions. I worked very slowly. It was enjoyable. I have not even checked my time. I am afraid to. I feel relaxed. I need some more time off.

The picture makes it look like pretty wood. I can't believe you fitted that together. Mom

It is mahogany. The boards are 3/8" thick. when I locked them together, it felt really good. And then when I put the square between them, it was dead on. I am going to work on the painting now.

This reminds me of the time that I made those dominoes.

I am so tired sometimes that I don't know how I do anything.

I'd like to make a post about daddy retiring. I may do that later.

It does look great, Keith. I am glad you are feeling comfortable with the saws, and still have all 10 fingers!
