Daddy-Daughter Soccer

Kaley played her first game today for the Pumas. She did really well. Scored a goal!

Tonight, Kaley and I went to the park to practice. A group of middle eastern guys showed up with their kids. We ended up playing with them. On Saturdays they play with the kids. Even with the kids, the game was intense, especially when it's dads on dads.

I probably haven't fully realized the shock I've given my body, although I already can't bend over without bracing myself.

Once, while playing goalie, a guy got a fairly close shot and I did this horrible mix of protecting myself and trying to "save" the goal... I fell backward with my hands pushing up in the air as if some effort were being done... but really just sinking backwards... in effect dodging the ball... protecting myself with my knees and backwards momentum... my hands perched out. Quite humiliating!

Interesting though, once I did that... for a moment I lost all expectations of myself... a complete weakling... I relaxed, and kept trying.

Once we finished Kaley hollered, "Daddy, you made it!"... which made it out to be more like going through the full 12 rounds in boxing match.

In soccer, everybody is a winner :)
