I dreamt last night that Obama chose somebody else to run NASA... then somehow, like surreal dreams, I found out that it wasn't so. Obama had *kept* Griffin. I believe the reason was to keep continuity.
From what I've read the more likely scenario is that he'll be replaced. I don't know what to think. It's been on mind enough to catch me in my sleep. Not really worried, just unsure of what direction we'll take... and more aware than ever how administration changes can drastically alter things at NASA... and how dependent NASA is on public sentiment.
For me, NASA is not so much about spin-offs, economic turn-around and prowess, but about vision, knowledge, understanding, exploration, discovery etc. I think that is, unfortunately, a hard sell - even in "good times".
Sometimes I get mad and wish NASA would just shutdown. The lense was too expensive... it's over... lights out... good night... there you go... eat your savings...
Other times I'm so proud of what's going on.
Most times, I stay kinda confused, shamefully uninformed... and just keep working.
PS: In my editor, Obama is still underlined in red as a misspelling. That's a signal I probably need to upgrade.
