NASA News

I read that Obama said, "NASA has lost focus and is no longer associated with inspiration I don't think our kids are watching the space shuttle launches. It used to be a remarkable thing. It doesn't even pass for news anymore."

I read that the answer to that is to trim funding. Now that will inspire!

Well thank goodness for the toilet episodes, frozen pee-cicles and crazy cross country diapered astronauts. They keep NASA at least somewhere in the popular consciousness.

What we need is some fear. We can capitalize on fear. It's hard to capitalize on pure success unless you are in a competition. Oh! How about that? We could go for the comeback theme after some horrible mishap. That could generate some interest. Nah. There's not much steam in comeback. How about a new show, "Strap Yo Butt To This!"

On the other hand... you never know quite what to believe with politicians. An article here: http://www.space.com/news/ft-080805-obama-space-policy.html says that he won't cut funding. The impression I've gotten lately is that he's looking at options and hasn't made a decision yet. Bringing in a military guy could be good -- might lend itself to a "get it done" mentality. And obviously the military is not afraid of spending money.
