Spent today getting the accounting straight. In half a day I basically have it all together. I think I've drug my feet for years worried about it all.
Kim did most of the account set up at my direction. She's a regular GnuCash pro now :) Half a freaking day.
Amazing how things aren't as bad as you think. That big medical bill fell into the picture.
The cool thing is seeing Kim go, "Oh, so if the roof is 7K then that's about all we have after the medical bill."
Yesterday she said, "But I'm trying to be good; I got flour instead of cereal... and pancakes go a long way..." How can you argue against pancake savings not equaling a new car? Especially when farmers are making wonderful organic flour??? And pancakes make the world a better place???
How can you say no to a bigger veggie garden? No to private school? No to Disney? No to saving Darfur? No to saving the Newspaper guy? No to semi-homeless neighbors living in trucks? No to stray cats? No to new clothes? Just no and no and no and no....
I just love this model: Equity, Assets, Liabilities, Expenses and Income. No matter what happens! No matter what!!!! In a transaction, if one goes up, the other goes down. Every transaction balances.
NOW! When Kim says, "Well I gave the Newspaper homeless dude $20, and then I wrote a check for gifts for Evan for $20 so that evens it out."... I don't blow a gasket... It really wasn't $40. Wait a second! KIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
