Angst

Angst is the experience of our freedom and responsibility. The archetypal example is the experience one has when standing on a cliff where one not only fears falling off it, but also dreads the possibility of throwing oneself off. In this experience that "nothing is holding me back", one senses the lack of anything that predetermines you to either throw yourself off or to stand still, and one experiences one's own freedom.

Fear has an object of dread. Angst precedes the unknown! Angst has no object of dread. Angst stands on the edge of nothingness. Angst and fear are not the same.

Whether angst or fear... depending on how far down it is... you are still dead!

Angst is the experience of knowing you have the freedom if you wanted to... and maybe not understanding what keeps you from doing it...
