Nail It


I've always thought that nailing was liking selling out, that real woodworking would join wood to wood - joinery.  I still wish I could, but it takes too much skill and time.  Maybe I'll be able to do joinery someday with bradding as a way of keeping things together, like tacking things together before welding.

I got this combo deal today.

I was actually having to break apart brads with a pair of pliers and hammer the tiny things in on my last frame.

i agree... it seems like to do anything "the right way" with wood either requires really nice tools, or some really good skills, or both.

seems like every time I turn around on a wood project, it requires some tool I don't have :(

I used the nailgun today to help my neighbor make a display for a collection of golfballs and shot glasses. The nailgun was sooooo accurate and simple. I can see doing a hybrid of wood joining and bradding (sp?) as a decent compromise. They say that wood glue and clamps will yield a bond "stronger than the original wood"... but I just don't buy it... and I know I'm wrong...

I would like to see a real woodworker in action and see what it really takes --- not that 2,000,000 tooled guy on freaking PBS.
