I could see this guy underwater near the bank. I stood about twenty feet away and dropped a fly (streamer/clouser) pretty close to him and then tugged with my left. When the fly passed he dove but it wasn't right. I tried a couple more times and then BAM he hit it! The gar made quite a scene. I had him for about 15 seconds and he popped the fly.
