Back To Rembrandt At MFAH

Drew at the museum today.  Pictured is a cropped portion of my drawing of a Rembrandt.  I couldn't get a decent picture.
On my way out I decided to check out the American painters.  After John Singer Sargeant, I turned to my left... and wow... Thomas Eakins! (he's the guy that did "The Writing Master")

I committed at least three violations today:
  1. I got conned into doing a quick sketch of a sculpture (by Rodin) for a guy's art appreciation class.  I think he (and his family with him!) really appreciated not having to sketch it :-)  I could tell he felt bad because he started trying to get into the sculpture, "Wow, that lady looks like she's had it tough.  Really disturbed." (okay, cool, he thought, got that freaking sketch... I'm gonna get an A+!!!)
  2. When I went to pay for parking, I thought I was going to get my membership cut.  They changed that, so no discount.  I sorta complained and said, "Well, I guess I won't be able to eat tonight... but that's okay" (I was really joking)... but she insisted I get it for free.  It was my first shot at pulling "the starving artist" routine.
  3. I went fishing downtown in a location that said, "Fishing Allowed For 12 and Under and 65 and Older Only".  I poached a bluegill!
When I got in my car, "I think I'm dumb" was playing.  I said to myself, "I'm on track."  Went home thinking about American painters, America and painting The Great Generation... imagining what it would be like if I could meet with older people, get their stories and make portraits... how awesome it would be if I could do some sort of collection of those guys, with their attached stories...  I know I'm getting better at painting, but I'm so far off.  The Great Generation will be gone before I could ever attempt that... I mean if I actually got serious... which I probably am not... just caught in the moment or something.
