At Fly Tackle Unlimited, the owner (I think) suggested I buy the book "Texas Saltwater Classics".
Thumbing through the different fly creations of different Texas Saltwater Fly tiers, this one stood out.
At first glance, I thought, "What tha?" Then it hit me what it was and how it worked and I got that tickle when somebody has done something really simple and clever, and you want to go sit, ask a million questions and learn. It's an ingenious fly in my opinion. I want to fish with Captain Skipper Ray. I bet he's tops.
What I'm starting to read about is "the grass flats", crab spawning, shrimp migrations, different sorts of shrimps: grass, pistol, white etc.
All the sudden it seems very possible to find tailing redfish. Most fly fishing mentioned in this book is in "skinny water"... The guy at Tackle Unlimited mentioned "site casting" several times... The question is WHERE are these guys finding the fish and HOW are they getting there. I'd seriously prefer not having to deal with a boat or kayak. I like wading.
Fun stuff.
