In a garage full of blue blinking Christmas lights I finished watching the Cowboys win in overtime. Next game was Patriots vs 49rs. Bart walked up the driveway. He asked me if I had a beer. I told him I had one more. He said, "Strange, I normally don't ask for a beer, there's been some stuff going down." I gave him the beer. The week before I ran with a beer down the street and threw it at a pitbull that was charging Donna and her dog.
Bart started talking about his new job that has to do with the oil field. He has been a carpenter with his own small business for the past 7-10 years. On a dry spell, we had Bart put our kitchen cabinets in. He told me that he's happy for the change. He says oil drilling is what he really knows.
Bart mentioned that the doctor had pulled the six stitches from Donna's finger. I thought it was seven stitches. The leash to her dog had twisted around her finger and had cut into it.
Obama interrupted the football game to speak over the tragedy in Connecticut. I had to brace myself. Number one - Bart was talking a mile a minute. Number two - the game was interrupted. Number three - Bart on my right and Obama on my left can only lead to a full fledged rant. Under blinking Christmas lights - I heard tragedy in one ear and spitting, passionate talk about the government taking our guns in the other.
Obama finished and the game came back on; however, gun talk didn't. It wasn't just about guns, it was about the size of the bullets, the exit wound, which bullets do more damage and how.
I heard two pops coming from outside our circle on Woodvale. I asked Bart if he heard the pops. He didn't hear me ask the question much less the pops. Richard and I heard a couple pops the other day from that direction. Richard said it was Katelyn. I remembered that and so figured it was the same.
Bart got to a stopping point. He asked me if my beer was empty. I said it was. He told me he'd go get me a Corona. I said, "Sure." I went inside and told Kim that she should come save me in 45 minutes. She told me it would be 15 minutes as it was time to open the next Advent card. I went to the bathroom and went outside. The beer I gave Bart was half empty.
Bart hadn't returned with the Corona. Andi was at the driveway and asked what was going on. I looked down the street and there were cop cars and an ambulance at Donna and Mark's. Several cops swarmed the place with guns at their sides. I asked Andi if she thought I should get Bart and Debbie - they being close friends of Mark and Donna's. She thought I should. I knocked on the door. There was no answer. Standing with Andi, I saw Bart and Debbie at Donna and Mark's. I heard his voice break as if he was saying something in disbelief. A flush went over me and I put my arm around Andi's shoulder and told her that I was sorry - that I thought it was bad. I told her I had to go inside. Andi came back by and I told her I was sorry again.
Later, I heard a woman was given CPR. Later I saw a van that said "Forensics". I didn't sleep well and can't stop thinking about it. Honestly, I don't know what happened.
