Creative Process - Groping

Ever have that feeling that you are hungry for something, just not sure what? You can vaguely taste the thing you are hungry for... but still can't pin it down.

Suppose somebody gave you 20 ingredients and those 20 ingredients could cook up anything. The only thing to do is figure out that recipe you are so hungry for. But what you are hungry for has never been cooked. You've never tasted it, you just have this vague sensation of what it is... and you'll go mad if you can't get it.

So the tasting and mixing begins. Out of the 20 ingredients, you've only tried 12.

First thing to do is get a good handle on the remaining 8.

And then you began tasting and mixing... and it is a mess! All along you are longing for that *something*...

One day you get a combination that seems tasty... and you set it aside... *knowing* that that belongs in the final recipe... but just not sure how.

And all along you wonder if you'll ever taste that thing that you are hungry for... And you can't stop...

And your kitchen is a mess, but no matter... once the recipe is made... you'll clean up... but for now... you are groping... and find yourself in a mix of delight and depression as you get inklings of the real taste of what you are searching for... and then lose it... and sometimes wonder if it is all imagination... and a pipe dream...

I am not that visionary. :-) But it is an excellent description of what you were telling me about work today!

It isn't really visionary, maybe it is just restlessness.

I semi-look forward to the day when I settle into thinking I've tasted enough or maybe just enjoy tasting other people's concoctions and quit trying to make my own.

At the same time, I feel like I'll slowly die whenever I do.
