Engine Noise

I must complain.

Why? Why, on such a beautiful day, do my neighbors decide to do their yardwork with their horrible machines? Why?

Why does the leaf blower have to be used to blow away every single sprig of grass?

Why, for a 4x4 garden, does it take a 2-cycle engine for "plowing" and "tilling"?

Why?

The only quiet place is indoors. That is so sad. I can drive 65 miles to a quiet which is out of doors. I know a spot. But it's so far to drive. I'd give 20% taxation on my income to be able to make a garden that is a refuge. A large quiet park. Just a place to hide in the quiet. But three million dollars couldn't buy a refuge within a 40 mile radius.

Sometimes I really think it is time to move. I'd hate to take Kaley from friends next door, but I think we (our family) might be better off somewhere else. The contrast between the Hill Country and here is just plain striking. I know there is no panacea, but I think we are fish out of water here.

That is how I feel today, and have been fighting for some time.

I don't think we're leaving. I'm just voicing frustration. And if I left, which is indefinite as my next mood, then I can't imagine doing anything else. The work here is great.

I think we can do better though, in ways to integrate community, the environment and culture type stuff.

I tell you what. The Japanese Garden @ Memorial Herman Park is *really* nice.

It is ironic that you can find a peaceful place in the center of the maelstrom of an ever-growing throw-up of urban sprawl.

Like the eye of the hurricane.
