This looks better in person. At one point, I was a bit frustrated with this one. I tried to be in a place where people wouldn't watch... but had a couple people looking. This one guy said, "Watcha need... is s'm birds." I was in the premilinary stage when it looks like a complete moron is working on it. I told him it takes a bit of time. He said, "It take's'm 30 minutes on the TV. I watch'm." Anyways , this one lady passed by and said, "It's beautiful." And I said, "It's terrible." And she said, "It's beautiful." And within 15 minutes it came together and kept coming.
What I didn't want to do was: 1) Use birds 2) Use a figure with a shadow 3) Use reflection 4) Use brush work to make curly waves 5) Make perfect waves peeling 6) Use light
I wanted to capture a beach break with wind... and water coming on shore. At one point, right before Kaley asked, "Daddy, can we go home now?", I felt the painting captured the sand, wind and waves.
The hardest thing for me is starting and honestly having no idea how to do it. I've done that over and over again. If I know how to do it, it feels either dishonest, formulaic or boring doing it again. But really, I still think I can't do it... I think that is why I don't want to do something twice. But I will and have done things twice... I don't know what I'm saying... but had fun at the beach today. :-)

This is a fabulous painting. Maybe that lady could see it even before it came together... I love that there is nothing canned or formulaic about your paintings.
The piccomolo lady said that if you sold one, "you could just paint another one." But I think you would have to feel and experience a moment again, you couldn't just reproduce it for the sake of a reproduction. I think that you probably shouldn't try to make this your source of income. It would take away some of your freedom and passion and joy...and you might just draw a blank! I have visions of me teaching, all of us on my insurance plan through work, you part-timing at a Starbucks, and painting the rest of the time! Maybe in a few years...what do you think?
Yeah, the lady did say, "Just paint another one." Others say, "Yeah, make prints." I've heard, "Twenty-fives bucks a pop too." There is no way.
I need to keep my day job. It goo.
I think I need to keep making the weekend, a Week End.
And dang it, next idiot contract, vacation is going in. This whole year, I had a three day trip to Big Bend. That is the most stupid thing I've ever done to myself.
what do you mean by dishonest?
Like when you sing for your friends in the voice that isn't yours.
This is a lovely painting Keith.
Keith this is great, You got the waves looking just right, I have awful trouble using watercolour to get that look, maybe I should try acrylics!! And the colour in the sand y water is the way it should be too. Hang it on the wall.
Thanks, Penny.
I've already hung it in the livingroom :)
That painting was weird... I felt myself go into it at one point... but it wasn't the scene so much... it was the wind, waves and sound. Hard to explain.
