Girl With Pearl Earring IV

Here is an unfinished piece (of an unfinished larger piece) of what I did today. I am very happy with it. This is the first time since the beginning that I have tried to paint a face with color. Don't know how I did it. I mixed the colors so weirdly. I have never painted this way either. I was doing more blending.

I was nervous because I was afraid I couldn't paint people... and that is what I want to do the most. So I am relieved. All the experimenting with color, anatomy book, charcoal & ink drawings... black&white Picasso & Lincoln... and here is a start. A real one, I think.

Changed the girl a little on purpose (and probably a lot not on purpose). Gave her blue/green/hazel-ish eyes.

Went to "Fast Frame" with Kaley to feel them out on prices. Frames are *very* expensive. There is no way I can use them.

Kaley and I also ate Vietnamese food.

Now it is game time. Putting away my paints.

-- Later --- Ended up playing with these speed-stack cups. Now it is time to read "Lord Of The Rings". Frodo and company are now with Celeborn and Lady Galadriel in Lothlorien.

Keith, That is amazing. Fantastic. I don't have enough superlatives. I saw that and it blew me away! Keep painting!!!

Kim, this one actually looks better in person.

Still, I have a long ways to go, but you can see a lot of progress since that attempt to paint Kaley (turned into the Voodoo Chile).

It's kinda scary, because it's almost like I realize I can paint people... now I don't know what to do with them...

Ha! I know....use the force, Keith.

For a year and a half I have cycled between different elements. As soon as I find one is stronger, I flop back to a weaker element. Sometimes, I discover a new element.

Now what I see as a task is finding some original composition.

Maybe that will be my New Year's resolution.

That sounds like a plan....

I keep saying it isn't talent. I've worked for one and a half years. Exceptional, also, would take originality. But thanks.

I did a painting outside today. Got mad and scraped it off after 3 hours of working on it.

Only later, I realized I was hungry... and nervous this lady who had painted for 30 years was going to come back and see that crazy mess I had made.
