I must admit that I thought Monday was "Columbus Day". This is the reason for Conquistadors (at least partly). I was corrected by Kim. She said, "Your parents want us to go meet them in Columbus." I said, "No way. I went through Columbus last 'Columbus Day', I don't plan on repeating that." She said, "But it is Martin Luther King Day". I said, "No. It is Columbus Day".
But then that day of going through Columbus on Columbus Day didn't seem so long ago... and then Kim pointed to the calender and said, "No. Martin Luther King Day."
"Oh. Yeah. Frankie and I had conversation about MLK... which lead to Columbus Day... and that guy at Starbucks didn't flinch when I said me making the Pinta, Ninya & Santa Maria (or whatever) for Columbus Day might be interesting."
BUT - I have been reading a book that does kinda go along with MLK day. It is called "Gang Leader For A Day"... the story of a sociologist that basically joined a gang and tagged along with its leader (and actually ran the show one day). It tells the inner workings of a gang and its relationship with the community. It reminds me of when I was involved with the poor in Russia and the complexity (and hard realities) of dealing with the local mafia while trying to help. On a lighter level, it reminds me of day to day work politics.
