Tree Line

Left San Saba River for Washington State. Got to Eden. Only Eden looked like the snake had long since visited with rust and decay. After Eden it only got more dismal. The oak trees stopped. The land flattened. My dread of sleep started. Outside San Angelo, this side, I saw a sign "Motel 6 $39.99".

It is nearly impossible to go from limestone banks, gentle eddies, arched bows to a musty hotel. I wish there were fellow travelers. Not with me, just to pull over and chat with about the day. I wish there was an invitation to cross outside of the oaks to mountains. A welcome place to explore. Then, the desert would bloom. The farmlands wouldn't seem so menacing.

I pulled into a convenient store. For supper, I got Flaming Hot Cheetos, Hot Sunflower Seeds and a Lemon/Lime Gatorade. On analog roam, I called Kim and told her that I couldn't go to Washington. It was too far. After the Hill Country, it was just depressing.
