Painting

This painting is by Mary Cassat. I started a free-hand painting of it this evening.

When it's working, I really like to paint. In a few strokes and a couple rubbings I had the makings of the mother and child. It's quite amazing and rewarding when it works.

In all the studying, headlines, hot new technical stuff... these paintings stop me in my tracks.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm wasting time painting when I could be doing something else. Something always tells me, "You're really not a painter. I mean *really*, you are *not* an artist. You should try music, maybe you could do something there, it's the only thing you haven't tried."

This evening after that sketch, something said, "Well maybe, just maybe". I sure wish that could be my vocation, but how do you know?
