East/West Home's Best

Yesterday, Kim and I stole away for a couple hours to walk along the Greenbelt in Austin. Kim tried to talk me into staying and painting. I was happy to hear her pushing me to do something I wanted to do, not that she's not always that way, but she was kinda adamant about me painting there. She said the trees were just perfect and that'd I miss the chance. I didn't disagree too much but said I had stuff to do for the end of the month, we just got back from The Netherlands, missed a couple days last week with the surgery etc. But she convinced me pretty much, and I was hoping I'd wake in the morning ready to charge the countryside.

I woke up with energy. Took off planning to go to Enchanted Rock to paint. I hit Hwy 71 and then it came down to left or right, east or west, home or the country.

I do that a lot. I push myself to a point where a decision has to be made. I love those junctures. I hate them too.

What I hope for is that tickle that pushes me into the unknown, the dropping off of those upside-down cockroaches underneath the couch, the monthly report, the baseboard calking. I hope for the signal that it's time, that the sky is open, the leaves wiggling, granite sparkling, that things are just right, that I've done my duty, job done well and everybody's wish, my wish, is that I'd go, just go, go and come back with something to share.

But it wasn't today. It wasn't bad. I came home and finished the baseboards over the Butternut.

Maybe Spoonbill will earn a trip to Big Bend some time. As long as you're working, and you can work, why not combine it with something out there? Why can't you program in the desert? If you have enough batteries; and you've got something to do... and you git'r done... what's the difference?

I'm telling you (myself)... YOU CAN DO IT! THE BIG LUG BUTT COMPANIES CANNOT! Go to the country!!!
