Aging Bureaucracy

Note that green spike on the very left. Then the blue drop. That means youngsters decided to leave NASA or aged into the second and no upcomers. Why? Maybe young people smell something?

If the trend continues, by 2014 half of NASA civil servants will be in their mid-50s. Extrapolate a bit further - those guys will retire and nothing will backfill. Bonzai!

Wonder how property value will look around here without JSC? Come on, Texas City!

Still no appointment for NASA head. It is kinda disturbing, but maybe this is the ultimate plan - let it rot, and replace with refineries.

Media is pushing for paranoia about no appointment for NASA head...This tells me everything's really going to be fine.

I didn't know the media cared.

I'm reading stuff like "...The news is another major blow to KSC; the facility had hoped to get the moon-rocket program up and running as quickly as possible to offset thousands of job losses from the space shuttle's retirement next year."

Ok, I have to say that space relateed exploration/travel/research is almost constantly on the news over here. And NASA is still seen to be at the forefront. I know you are more familiar with the situation than I am, but I wouldn't be predicting any kind of demise from the international point of view - even with the crisis. At least in terms of the space (no pun, I swear) accorded it to the major media outlets here, no matter what the financial situation the international space community (with NASA recognized as a, if not the major leader) is still immensely important and relevant.

I just found out that NASA already has a leader. Vetter...and he can lay some dang good flooring too.

I'm just a blood sucking contractor.

Good to know it matters in The Netherlands. Tell them everybody at NASA wears wood shoes on Dutch Wednesday. :)

I will! Even if you are making it up, we can still pretend!

Oh, man, Connie - I miss you! I could hear your laugh just then when I read that. ;-)
