This morning we decided to have a "family day". Kovi was first to suggest what we do on family day, "We need to find some chickenwood!" Finding chickenwood entails braving 100+ temps in a swamp-like location. In the Vetter family, whoever is most geared up to do something will usually win. "Family Day" was probably me lacking my own plan, Kim lacking hers, and so on... to chickenwood.
So chickenwood it was. That was the plan.
I know that grubbing through the thickets in search for chickenwood is not up on Kim's favorite things to-do list. I see the whole thing in the future as all four of us go tramping through trails, bogs and marshes to find chickenwood. No, that wouldn't happen. In order to balance the side putting up with the chickenwood adventure, it would take something very lavish. That could get expensive and require lots of driving. It could get complicated which is what I most hate.
So I offered to take Kovi alone on a chickenwood excursion - fullon - into the overgrown trails - Off Spray - in the 100+ heat. A sense of relief came over Kim. She and Kaley decided to go rollerskating.
But we only have one car since our other one drowned. So we finnigled that. Two and half hours chickenwood - trade - then rollerskating.
We *did* find chickenwood. Kovi said, "This is soft chickenwood." That's a high compliment. We scored. AND - Kaley ended up winning the limbo contest at the roller rink to the late Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Mixed in all that was Buckin' Bronco, Spaceship, Motorcycle Race and finally playing in the backyard kiddie pool.
Now they are at Whole Foods downtown and I am vegitating.
* don't feel like proofing this entry... it may make no sense...
PS: Our remote died on our new-fandangled digital tv service... so the last station we turned it to is the *only* station we get. That is abc. We have one channel. I love digital tv.

Please explain to those of us who live on planet earth what chicken wood is. Mom V
"chickenwood" is a made-up name for wood so soft you can pull it all to pieces, like cooked chicken. :-)
It's more than that though. You have to be there to understand chickenwood. It's ungoogleable.
SOOO.........what's the purpose in collecting chickenwood???
Carol M.
We don't actually collect it. We find it, then sit there and peel it apart until there is nothing left.
Maybe it is like whittling or popping bubble wrap.
There is something relaxing about digging your fingers in spongy wood and pulling it apart.
I'm confused too. Maybe I need to ask Kovi.
I asked Kovi and he said, "Doedcuz, doedcuz it is *soft*... and and and you can break it apart."
"Doedcuz" -- what a cute term! Sounds just like him, doesn't it? Ask Kovi if he would consider the tree we pulled bark off of (more than once)on The Preserve premises don't tell anyone!)'chickenwood.'
