When I got back from the Netherlands I really wanted to start a new effort with the voice recognition for programming.
Today was the first day in a long time when I remembered the excitement in just getting the computer to do something that you tell it to do. It's hard to explain. We take it for granted. We get into nuances. But you know, it's an incredible machine. The computer can do cool stuff!
I have gone back and forth and tried many different avenues in getting back to programming. It has been very frustrating to say the least. Actually, it has been scary.
I won't go into it, but I think I unlocked a couple doors.
ps: I am sorry, I still really like Tcl. And I must say that John Osterhout has seriously, very seriously, given me hope.
pss: I just found something that John Osterhout said, "Dictation systems don't help much with mouse pointing. They have facilities for moving the cursor under voice control, but I found them extremely clumsy to use. Fortunately for me, my right hand is fine so I can mouse normally. I don't know what I would do if I lost the use of my mousing hand." I did not realize that John Osterhout could use a mouse. That's cheating! Honestly, had I known this I might have given up altogether! He's got a good hand! I'm totally broken! Dang, it is plumb ridiculous!

You are RIGHT! No fair! (Get it, RIGHT???)
I think I get it. He can work with his right hand. And I'm right about that. Okay Kim. Did you drink too many cups of coffee?
probably. :-)
