We are a one car family. Our Honda Fit is shared between a school teacher, a programmer and a highschool theater star. Recently we had an issue with the car. The key wouldn't turn the ignition. We had to get the car to Liberty Locksmith. How does a family go without a single car? Enter the mother-in-law, who also needs a car. Everything got complicated. We survived that one.
I thought about it. How about trying Uber for such occasions?
Yesterday I needed the car for a meeting. I had to drop Kim off at school, go home, then go to the meeting. While at the meeting, I ran across Frankie (a.k.a Mr. G.) Frankie is always on the edge. I asked Frankie about Uber. Frankie had used it, found it simple, thought it safe - even more so than a regular Taxi.
After the meeting I went home. I needed to work. Instead of me going to pick up Kim and Kovi, I thought I'd get her to be the guinea pig and try Uber. I wrote her:
Kim wrote back:First, this is a good thing - not a bad thing.
I'd like to try Uber. I talked to Frankie about it today. I think it might be really good for us. It's safe.
Download the Uber app to your phone.
It should show drivers in your area.
It's uber easy, I think.
It will cost about $10 to get home.
I then tried to comfort her because I knew it'd be weird for the first time:
She wrote back:
Next thang I'll be Ubering to the Scoutbar
It worked out. Kim tipped the guy (which is not ubery, but she read it was nice). It cost $16.
Anyways, I'm thinking about getting a new Honda Fit, ditching the old Honda Fit and Ubering those special times when our single car sharing gets too messy.
Kaley would really rather have her own car, but the window doesn't work, the key is all jacked up (still, it fell on my lap while the car was running yesterday (after $350)) and I think we should be able to survive with one really decent car. I'm partial to the Honda Fit because it fits a 9'2" surfboard, has good gas mileage and I LOVE the magic seats.
