My Most Unfavorite Tool

I don't like the table saw. I am hoping I can do most of the "table saw" work with the bandsaw. Either that, or I need to get used to it. It just makes me nervous.

Basically, you have a blade flying at you, and your job is to slide wood in fast and avoid having a missile kick back at you. If you don't send it in fast enough, it burns up the wood. But too fast, you burn up the motor. Or it'll hang. Or it'll catch.

I think they can be fine, I just don't know what I'm doing.

Yesterday, I was leaving burn marks on the wood. I am probably ruining (or ruined) the blade (which is expensive). I only got one cut, and Kim got sick and ended up with Kovi who wouldn't allow me "to make that noise".

Now it is early in the morning, and I'd wake'em up if I tried.

Really, if it was cutting smooth I'd be good, I just feel like I'm ruining the saw and blade by using it. I want it to cut through like a hot knife through butter... and I want to feed it smooth...

I get all uptight over using the thing. Then there is the issue of the table top rusting.

Dang!

This can happen with table saws and other circular saws when the wood starts to "veer". If the wood starts to turn with respect to the cut, then pressure on the sides of the blade will build up. This causes the motor to bind up and slow down, and the intense friction with the side of the blade makes the wood start to burn.

My guess is that there is a slight misalignment between the blade and then fence you are pushing along. Make sure the fence and the blade are perfectly parallel.

Hey! That's good!

Actually, this morning, after writing this post, I hit it again. I had the same thought; however, I think the problem was my steering. I think I was pushing at an angle. I was doing that mostly out of fear of getting in the way.

I did get a burn-free cut, except for a spot where I transitioned from hand to push stick.
